My interest in the arts extends beyond the representative to music, architecture, literature, film and performance art - all of which provoke emotional response and blend together to inform my work.Portrait painting for me is an intuitive and sensorial process balancing individual elements, inner character by exploring the personality of the sitter and not merely reproducing a facsimile. From observation drawings and sketches on location I endeavour to communicate the emotional experience that the landscape and climatic conditions awake in me.
