Body // Loss //Materiality

McLay has a fascination with the fragility of the body, realising the body is temporary, merely material and matter . When her Mother passed in 2012, she reminded the young Artist of the Desiderata poem, 'we have no more right to be here than the trees and the stars', which has provided fuel for McLays life-absorbing creativity since. The Quietus Series to the artist, is a dedication to her Mother as well as to her own body, contemplating that one day it will be gone.

"It's a devastating but beautiful moment when you can nearly hear someones spirit leave their body. The room feels emptier and it tells you to move on, they aren't there anymore." - Rosie McLay
