“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Weeds are plants that are unwanted, undesirable and rejected. A metaphor perhaps for groups we label like ‘the homeless’ and ‘immigrants’. Groups we judge without proper consideration for the individual. The weed might seem worthless but dig deeper and discover its value. They are beautiful, medicinal, a food source and determined survivors. Sue Colson’s work aims to provoke her audience to take a second look and find forgotten or undiscovered virtues in unexpected places. She believes that there is beauty and value in all things around us.
